RIST and Humana Entered a Partnership In 2018 To Fund the Kadam+(UP) Project

THE KADAM+(UP)PROJECT

The Kadam+ (UP) project is an initiative by Humana People to People India (HPPI) to support the Government of Uttar Pradesh in securing quality elementary education for every child in the State. By providing the innovative Kadam accelerated learning courseware in Government primary schools and building teachers’ capacity in meeting the needs of excluded children and lagging students, the Kadam+(UP) project aims to result in a measurable improvement in learning experiences of children in Government primary schools in the State.

Over a 3-year period, the Kadam+(UP) project will be implemented in 240 Government primary schools whereby resource and skill capacity of 1,200 government school teachers will be enhanced, resulting in better learning experiences and improved learning outcomes for 24,000 children; and also result in the mainstreaming of 9,600 excluded (out-of-school) children.

In the long run, the Kadam+(UP) project model is expected to demonstrate a successful convergence of investment and efforts by the government and private sector to drive cost-effective impact in quality of learning in government primary schools.

SUMMARY

A. The Kadam+(UP) project builds upon the vision to secure quality foundation learning to every child from the vulnerable sections of society.
B. The Kadam+(UP) project collaborates with the Government primary educational system to sustainably build capacity of government primary schools to provide quality and engaging learning to children.
C. Over a 3-year period, the Kadam+(UP) project will enhance resources and skills of 1,200 teachers in 240 government primary schools, enhancing the learning experience of 24,000 children and mainstreaming of 9,600 excluded children.
D. In the long-term, the Kadam+(UP) initiative is expected to result in scaling and replication of innovative, child-centric teaching-learning methods in government primary schools, thereby providing access to quality foundation learning for every child.

THE KADAM+(UP25)PROJECT

The Kadam+(UP25) project is the next phase of the Kadam+(UP) project. The Kadam+(UP25) project aims to strengthen the quality of primary education in the state of Uttar Pradesh by scaling the intervention to 20 districts of the State. It further enhances the public-private partnership model by converging direct interventions through school-support with institutional capacity building of teacher training and support institutions in the State.

The Kadam+(UP25) project adopts a cost-effective yet efficient scaling approach by emphasizing adoption of low-cost innovative teaching-learning courseware (Kadam) in schools while focusing ed-tech investment in teacher training and support through the state-managed teacher training institutions.

Planned in a phased manner over a 5-year period, the Kadam+(UP25) project aims to reach 20,000 government primary teachers by 2025 through a variety of support approaches, thereby impacting more than 361,000 children in government primary schools. At the same time, capacity of 6 state-run teacher training and support institutions is enhanced through ed-tech labs and online teacher networking and support systems.

In the long run, the Kadam+(UP25) project aims to establish a cost-effective, scalable and sustainable model whereby the quality of primary education accessed by children from vulnerable sections of society in government primary schools is enhanced.
