Rural India Supporting Trust is hiring a Grant Manager (GM) and Partner Liaison

Function of the Position:

This position provides home office (NYC Based) technical, financial, contractual, and management oversight for currently running grants supported by RIST.  The GM will have decision-making authority and be the primary point of contact between RIST and a variety of organizations within their portfolio. This position is key in enabling RIST grantees to achieve quality programming and development outcomes. This position will require technical knowledge of the international development field and will review incoming grant proposals as well as manage all aspects of active grant programs.

*Position is US (NYC) based and is currently operating on both an in-office and work from home arrangement.  

Roles and Responsibilities:

Manager Functions:

The incumbent of this position manages home office functions for a portfolio of projects being implemented India, in addition to any projects in other geographic areas, if the need arises, and must be prepared to travel to India multiple times per year, however, this position is US based.  Makes timely decisions; escalates to appropriate decision-maker as needed; keeps Executive Director informed of key management or technical issues on the projects.  The incumbent is responsible for the overall management of the programs within their portfolio.  To include programs meeting their goals and objectives within the parameters of their contract stipulations: budgetary expenditures, activity timelines and monitoring, evaluation and learning expectations.

*Grant Management experience is required

Grant Applications:

Participates in research pertaining to all sectors in which RIST has interest in accepting grant proposal submissions on.  Ie: healthcare services, disability, education and environment.  Reviews incoming proposals for sound project design and appropriate budgeting, implementation timelines and their ability to properly communicate how monitoring and evaluation of program activities will be conducted.  

Technical:

Works with Executive Director to ensure that contract deliverables are completed and submitted in a timely manner, that project activities are implemented in accordance with the contract scope of work and approved work plan, and are of high quality. Provides support as necessary to the Executive Director and Grantee. Manages project extension or any modification to running grants.  Reviews, supports, and edits project deliverables with Grantees and informs Executive Director of any irregularities or problem issues. Contributes to cross-project learning to deepen development solutions that are locally relevant, successful, and sustainable.

Project Management:

Leads bi-monthly grant reviews with Executive Director. Responsible for scheduling Partner calls, meetings, and site visits as needed and in consultation with Executive Director.  Monitors day-to-day activity on the project and manages home office tasks, including:

  • Providing oversight of operational activities, to ensure that grant timelines are adhered to and quality of services is high.
  • Troubleshooting – The PM is the main POC for Partner organizations under their purview.  
  • Ensuring compliance to all stipulations of the agreement between RIST and the Grantee.  
  • Resolves complex contractual issues with appropriate escalation and collaboration with Partner and RIST Executive Director.
  • Manages preparation of budget realignments and contract modifications.

Serves as the primary point of contact for the Executive Director and other RIST staff on technical, management, operational, and financial issues of programs within their portfolio.  Responsible for guaranteeing that Grantees submit all reports on time and certifies the validity of the content of the reports through program management checks and balances.  

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

donor-fundedMinimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience and a bachelor’s degree or 5 years of experience and a master’s degree.

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience providing administrative and management support to international donor-funded projects. Ie. Grant management for international and/or domestic social service projects and programs.
  • Field experience working on international development programs
  • Experience managing and tracking financial budgets
  • Extensive report and/or proposal writing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Must be able and willing to travel to India projects.  (minimum one trip per year, when COVID-19 related policy and restrictions allow)
  • Ability to perform in an advisory role to senior management, including Managing Director and Board of Directors.
  • Proven experience in the development and nurturing of teams, instinctive understanding of when to delegate or lead.
