Advocating for the rights of
people with disabilities

We believe that every person with disability has a right to freedom and equality. She/He must have a safe space to live in while being part of a community. She/He should have access to economic and other opportunities and to a life of dignity that is free of stigma. RIST and our partners intervene to create spaces and conditions where each of these goals become a reality.

RIST supports programs that ensure every person with disability has a right and an opportunity to live in a home as a member of a community, and not in segregated and restrictive institutions.

Occupational Training and Special Education

We aim to provide all children the same access to education and economic opportunities irrespective of their disability. It is our belief that every child, if given adequate and appropriate support and guidance, can realize their potential.

RIST supports our partners in developing innovative ideas and institutions that tackle the issues of oppression and discrimination based on disability. We support creation of research-based models and policies that demonstrate a new vision for an open, unbiased and judgement free dialog around disability.

Mental Health

A person’s mental health status should not determine his/her worth. It should not determine his/her place in society. We are committed to ensuring that well-being and dignity are a right for all people.

Economic Development

We believe that technology can be a great leveler. Access to appropriate technology opens new possibilities and economic opportunities for people with disability. Our work focuses on enabling equal access to technology for people with disabilities.

There are 26.8 million people with disabilities in India.
